A DEVICE FOR THE CONTROL OF TROPICAL HARMFUL ALGAL BLOOMS (HABs)

A device that removes blooms of tropical harmful algal species in the water surface through clay application on seawater infected with harmful algal blooms (HABs). The device utilizes clay, specifically, a local ball clay powder which is mixed with seawater drawn from the site of proliferation and the slurry is applied/spread to the surface of affected areas. The utility model controls/alleviates the harmful effects and minimizes environmental damage due to HABs in the impacted areas. Clay remove HAB species thru clay particle-HAB cell flocculation and aggregation eventually leading to cell lysis/death. The device comprises mainly of a motorized pump (102), a mixing tank (106), a clay powder reservoir (105), a water intake hose (107) and a strainer (108), a water discharge hose (103) and a spray nozzle (104), enclosed in a body frame (101).
