Disclosed are a supported transition metal carbide catalyst and a one-step synthesis method therefor. The method comprises: mixing a carrier, a transition metal precursor, and a solid carbon source, and then grinding same to form a solid mixture; placing the solid mixture into a reducing atmosphere, successively subjecting same to a carbonization treatment and a high-temperature program heat treatment, then reducing the temperature and subjecting same to a passivation treatment in a protective atmosphere, so as to obtain a supported transition metal carbide catalyst. The preparation process is simple and can avoid processes such as impregnation and carburization with a gaseous carbon source. The prepared catalyst has a relatively large external surface area, a rich noble metal-like catalytic performance, is environmentally friendly and safe, and has cheap and easily available raw materials.
