In various exemplary embodiments, a method for using an automated teller machine (20) is provided, in which: the automated teller machine (20) is coupled to a mobile phone (30) of a user of the automated teller machine (20) via a Bluetooth Low Energy connection (40); the automated teller machine (20) transmits a first string, which is representative of what user options the automated teller machine (20) currently provides for the user, to the mobile phone (30) of the user via the Bluetooth Low Energy connection (40); and the mobile phone (30) reads the first string aloud to the user by means of a text-to-speech function, wherein the user knows from the reading aloud of the first string what user options he currently has for using the automated teller machine (20), and can then use the automated teller machine (20).
