METHOD AND DRIVER ASSISTANCE SYSTEM FOR ASSISTING A DRIVER OF A VEHICLE IN A PARKING MANOEUVRE INTO A PARALLEL PARKING SPACE

The invention relates to a method for assisting a driver of a vehicle (10) in a parking manoeuvre into a parallel parking space (30), in which method parallel parking spaces (30) are identified by the vehicle (10) when driving. According to the invention, in a first step, a parallel parking space (30) located ahead of the vehicle (10), seen in the usual direction of travel (38), is identified and the vehicle is then automatically parked into the parallel parking space (30) located ahead of the vehicle (10). The vehicle is either parked in a single manoeuvre (54) which describes an S-shaped track, if the parallel parking space (30) has a length above a predefined threshold value, or is parked in a plurality of manoeuvres, a first manoeuvre being along an S-shaped track in the forward direction so that at the end of the first manoeuvre (58) the rear of the vehicle (10) protrudes into the parallel parking space (30) and the front of the vehicle (10) projects out of the parallel parking space (30), which is then followed by at least one further manoeuvre (62) in the reverse direction. Further aspects of the invention relate to a driver assistance system which is configured to execute the method and to a vehicle comprising the driver assistance system.
