The present invention provides an agent for suppressing dehydration condensation of a silanol group, comprising a β-dicarbonyl compound and/or a sulfonyl isocyanate compound. The present invention provides a method for suppressing the progress of the aforementioned silanol group dehydration condensation reaction, by adding a β-dicarbonyl compound and/or a sulfonyl isocyanate compound to a system including a compound having a silanol group. In the present invention, an alkoxysilane component containing a monoorgano-trialkoxysilane and/or a diorgano-dialkoxysilane is caused to undergo hydrolysis or dehydration condensation in the presence of water to form a polyorganosiloxane having a silanol group, a β-dicarbonyl compound and/or a sulfonyl isocyanate compound as an agent for suppressing dehydration condensation of a silanol group is added to the polyorganosiloxane, and a polyorganosiloxane having a silanol group is produced.
