The present invention relates to a method for extracting cellulose nanocrystals by electron beam irradiation, including the steps of: (1) dissociating a cellulose-based solid material by irradiation with an electron beam; and (2) high pressure dispersion of the electron beam irradiation treated cellulose-based solid material. Accordingly, the present invention discloses a new and environmentally friendly method of dissolving soft wood pulp through electron beam and mild and simple alkali treatment at room temperature and atmospheric pressure to obtain cellulose nanocrystals without hydrolysis with strong acid.
