The present invention relates to an antimicrobial composition comprising plant extracts as an active ingredient and a complex preservative comprising the same. The antimicrobial composition, according to the present invention, having caprylyl glycol, 1,2-hexanediol, a Pimpinella Anisum extract, a Portulaca Oleracea extract and a Centella asiatica extract as an active ingredient, and the complex preservative comprising the antimicrobial composition show a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity against a variety of bacteria as well as excellent antimicrobial activity. In addition, the complex preservative of the present invention has been found to be a safe substance for human use because no toxicity or irritation occurs in human safety testing. Therefore, the complex preservative of the present invention can be advantageously used for cosmetics, medicine, and the like for the preservative purpose.
