The present invention relates to a static var compensator (SVC) system design method. The SVC system design method comprises the steps of: selecting a target area to install an SVC facility and analyzing a power system of the selected target area to determine an operating range of the SVC facility; selecting a configuration method of the SVC facility based on at least one of a user requirement and an SVC control method; determining a ratio between an inductive load and a capacitive load constituting the SVC facility of the selected configuration method; and calculating the optimum capacity of the inductive load and the capacitive load by using information on the determined operation range and load ratio.
