Methods and compositions are provided for reducing, preventing or alleviating the progress of calcification in peritoneal dialysis patients. In one embodiment, the present disclosure provides a method comprising administering a dialysis solution comprising a therapeutically effective amount of pyrophosphate in the range of about 30 μM to about 400 μM to a patient during peritoneal dialysis therapy. Formulations of dialysis solutions in accordance with the dosage ranges claimed in the present disclosure enable a therapeutically effective amount of pyrophosphate to be delivered to peritoneal dialysis patients.
