Hearing assistance device for use in the human ear canal, comprising a sound pick-up device which is designed to pick up ambient sound, a sound amplification device which is designed to amplify the ambient sound picked up by the sound pick-up device, a sound reproduction device which is designed to reproduce the ambient sound amplified by the sound amplification device, wherein the sound reproduction device is further designed to reproduce secondary sound which originates from a further secondary source different from the ambient sound, and a detection device which is designed to detect the duration of the reproduction of the secondary sound.
