A chainsaw can have a braking mechanism; a housing having a first space and a second space in which the brake mechanism is arranged; and an actuator. The housing may have a through hole that connects the second space with an exterior of the housing. The operating member may be arranged through the through hole over the second space and the exterior of the housing. The actuating element can be movable between a braking position at which the actuating element causes the braking mechanism to interrupt rotation of a saw chain and a drive position at which the actuating element causes the braking mechanism not to interrupt the rotation of the saw chain. The braking mechanism may have a connecting element which moves together with a movement of the actuating element in the second space. The housing can have an opening which connects the first space with the second space.
