The present invention relates to a method for the preparation of an electrode comprising a metal support, vertically aligned carbon nanotubes and a metal oxide deposited over the entire length of said vertically aligned carbon nanotubes, said method comprising the following successive steps (a) synthesize, on a metallic support, a mat of vertically aligned carbon nanotubes and (b) the deposition of a metal oxide matrix over the entire height of said mat of vertically aligned carbon nanotubes via spontaneous reduction at a lower or equal temperature at 40 ° C.
