A thermal efficiency enhancing unit is provided. The thermal efficiency enhancing unit includes: acceleration means 3 for accelerating matter within the unit to speeds required by the user; a pressure-controlled environment 3s13 which can freely allow the acceleration of the matter 3s14,5s1,8s1; and a matter decelerator 6 such that the matter will be decelerated. The matter decelerator 6 causes the temperature 7q1,8q1 of the accelerated matter to differ substantially from the temperature 5q1,9q1 of the decelerated matter. This enables a heat-engine 10,12 power-plant, or power-station operating between the two said temperatures to produce a work-output or electricity more efficiently than is presently possible.
