A tyre pressure sensor 104a-f includes a receiver to receive from a user module 108 (e.g. portable pressure reader/ interrogator) data indicating the user module is proximal to the sensor, and a transmitter to transmit to an apparatus (e.g. the user module) data indicating the user module has been near the sensor. This may use wireless near field communication (NFC). The sensor may also receive a tyre pressure request, store data indicating that the request was received in a pressure check register and transmit a confirmation of tyre pressure check to the apparatus. The transmission may be triggered by a motion sensor determining the wheel is rotating. The sensor may be used in a method for determining if a vehicle walk around check or pressure check has been carried out by the user by determining whether the user has been proximate to and/or has taken a pressure reading at each of multiple tire checkpoint inspection locations. If the walk around is determined to have not been done, the vehicle may be immobilised. Also claimed is a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and a vehicle including the sensors and user module.
