The present invention is a method for reducing the aniline content of high salinity wastewater, comprising: (a) providing a composition A comprising high salinity wastewater and aniline; and (b) at least one composition A. A method of producing a composition B comprising the composition A and cells of the at least one halophilic microbial strain by contacting with cells of the halophilic microbial strain. The invention further relates to a method for producing chlorine and sodium hydroxide. Further included in the present invention is a composition comprising high salinity wastewater, aniline, and cells of at least one halophilic microbial strain. [Selection diagram] Fig. 3
