To provide methods and compositions for inhibiting the binding of stem cells to organs and tissues including blocking the binding of stem cells to germinal centers of lymphoid tissues.SOLUTION: Disclosed herein is a composition to be administered not after the administration of stem cells but before or concomitant with administration of stem cell, not for hematological recovery in patients undergoing cancer therapy, non-myeloablative therapy or myeloablative therapy, including chemotherapy, radiation and combination treatments, where the composition comprises a therapeutic agent that inhibits the binding of stem cells to an active germinal center thereby making more stem cells available for regeneration of injured tissues or organs, the therapeutic agent is an antibody to CD26 or a substance selected from the group consisting of glucocorticoid and anti-TNF agents that inhibit or down-regulate germinal center formation or destroy or ablate the germinal center.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
