The method involves checking presence and/or characteristics e.g. drift of position of low ignition propensity zones (51) on a wrapping paper strip (50), of the zones on or in the wrapping paper strip by using an optical sensor, where the paper strip consists of fire-resistant material on an inner side or outer side. An optical controlling of the paper strip is carried out at a tobacco strand (56) of a tobacco processing industry or at rod-shaped articles of the industry. The tobacco strand and the articles are enclosed by the paper strip.
