'Pumpkin Butt', A Sense of Place Creative Writing and the Environment Writer’s Workshop Weekend, 29th April-1st May, North Keppel Island, Queensland
The core of this piece titled 'Pumpkin Butt' was written on Pumpkin Island - one of the smallest islands in the Keppel Island group off the coast of Central Queensland, Australia - during the Idiom 23 Central Queensland Writer’s Workshop in 2003. The environment is delicate with only 30 people being accommodated at any one time. And yes, one of the participants did flick her cigarette butt onto the ground after we were all just told to care for the place we were in because of the fragile nature of the environment. The piece was later re-worked and presented as a poem at the ‘A Sense of Place, Creative Writing and the Environment Writer’s Workshop Weekend, 29th April-1st May, 2005 , at North Keppel Island, Queensland.
