Sobre la crónica real en el siglo XV. Un nuevo manuscrito de la Refundición del Halconero

The discovery of a manuscript fragment of the so-called "Refundición de la Crónica del Halconero" attributed to Lope de Barrientos, permits reconstruction of the composition process of the royal chronicle in the fifteenth century and its political implications. Meticulous textual analysis identifies the manuscript as a copy of the draft that provided the basis for the "Refundición." Textual relations with other chronicles from the reign of John II permit the deduction that, in a first phase of composition, diverse sources were assembled, even respecting their literal content. The style was polished in a subsequent phase, which, in addition to stylistic or formal modifications, included others that responded to clear political intentions.
