Computer techniques have changed environment of creative work. The presentstudy has been focused on their effects on users.Firstly, differences between computer-supported and conventional drawing werestudied quantitatively with infants participating in drawing experiment. Analysiswas carried out by combining the well-known “Time Sampling Observationmethod” and “Event Sampling Observation method,” and led to the followingresults: (1) In computer drawing, infants are able to produce the environmentsimilar to drawing on paper, (2) Infants show different manners in changing colorpens depending upon the kinds of drawing tools, (3) Depending on characteristicsof drawing software, infants show unnatural manners such as clicking frequently acolor icon selected already; This becomes a serious problem on the infant’s cognitiveproperty. These results are useful for developing infant’s drawing interfaces.Next, it is found that the existing creation systems of color have some problems.To solve them, a new palette named “Tile Palette (TP)” is proposed. TP enabledindividual users to mix colors freely on a display like mixing paints in the realworld by setting up the color space that matches their own color image; they caniifoster their understanding how to use the system and recognizing visually both thequantity of the color displayed for mixing and the mixing process by the tileinterface, without any special knowledge about color. By employing some generalusers, the TP was compared with the Windows System used widely. In conclusion,TP users can mix colors easily as they wish and create a new color without numericinput. The concept of TP may be applied widely for digitalization of human feeling.
