Use of NWS Weather Measurements for Cross-checking Local Weather Measurements

This paper discusses the use of an independentnetwork of remote weather stations for buildingenergy analysis to assist agencies participating in theTexas LoanSTAR Monitoring and AnalysisProgram. A review of the sensors and procedures ispresented along with comparisons of localmeasurements against National Weather Service(NWS) measurements. Procedures are also presentedfor quickly determining when remote weatherstations fail. Experiences from several years ofoperating the LoanSTAR weather network areprovided, as well as examples of specific sensorfailures and how the NWS comparisons provide auseful cross-check.
