摘要

The overriding goal of the Intergenerational Project was to strengthen familieswhose mother is incarcerated. Because grandmothers are the main caretakers in such families, and because these families are typically in financial distress, the project is especially relevant to Administration on Aging's (AoA's) commitment to the neediest elders in the population. In addition, the families served by the Intergenerational Project are African-American, which reflects AoA's commitment to elders from under-addressed racial-ethnic groups. Toward the goal of strengthening families, Aid to Imprisoned Mothers, Inc. (AIM) pursued the following sub-goals: linking grandmothers to available assistance; promoting grandmothers' and grandchildrens' growth and development; enhancing the mother's family role during her incarceration; and disseminating information about the model intergenerational project so that others can learn from their efforts.
