Preparing Elected Officials to Deal with the Age Wave

The goals of the project were to: (1) to increase the awareness of local elected and appointed officials regarding the impact of an increasing aging society, (2) to identify exemplary models of local government/Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) programs and services that may help other communities develop solutions to their particular local aging priorities, (3) to transfer to county officials and AAAs findings on exemplary programs and services designed to meet the needs of the nation's older population through dissemination of a step-by-step collaborative planning process, and (4) to foster greater communication and coordination between county officials and AAAs and provide ongoing recognition of counties that work together with their AAA to plan for aging needs.
