Effects of Simulated Land-Use Practices on the Productive Capacity of Streams

The project was concerned with the potential effects of removing streamside terrestrial vegetation on biological processes in streams. The objectives of the research were (1) to investigate the effects of light energy inputs and substrate spatial heterogeneity on the productivity and species composition of plant assemblages in laboratory streams; and (2) to couple the results of these and other experimental studies with the dynamics of the total stream ecosystem by mathematical modeling.
