The Estrogen Therapy Model is written in ANSI standard mumps. Exhibit 1 lists theindividual routines that comprise the Estrogen Therapy Model program. Exhibit 2 provides a list of the model input parameters and the MUMPS global variables, (i.e., permanent variables stored on disk), that contain them. These parameters are user definable and can be input through the programs data entry screens. The first MUMPS global, PARAM, that is listed in Exhibit 2 is used to store more than one input parameter. All parameters, with the exception of this one, are age specific and allow the input of the specified data for ages between 50 and 94. The entry of data is simplified by allowing the imputation of missing data items using several different techniques, (press F1 for help regarding the imputations). Exhibit 3 lists other parameters that are calculated from parameters that are input by the user. Unlike other variables that are calculated using the values of specific statistics for an observation, (e.g., BMD), these parameters represent constants and are calculated once, based upon the parameters that are input by the user. Like those parameters that are input, the calculated parameters are stored as globals in the MUMPS database and are only changed if the value of one of the input parameters upon which they are based is changed. Exhibit 4 lists the input parameters that deal with cost and quality factors. The COSTQUAL globals 9 different parameters as presented in the exhibit.
