The Days of Remembrance commemorative planning guide has a dual purpose: first,to provide background historical information about the Holocaust during 1943, the focus of 1993's observance; and second, to provide examples and materials useful to planners of commemorative programs. It is divided into four major sections. The introductory essay provides an overview of the year 1943. A chronology of events for 1943 outlines major occurrences of the Holocaust and World War II. The anthology is a collection of eyewitness narratives and testimonies, in prose and poetry, as well as documents, photographs, and newspaper articles. From this selection, program planners may find appropriate materials for inclusion in their ceremonies. In the Planning Aids section, we have provided sample ceremonies and checklists as well as other resources for materials useful in putting together an appropriate Days of Remembrance observance. There is special material for U.S. Military Forces Program Project Officers. Finally, the Reference section contains a bibliography, a selected films list, and a glossary of terms.
