The testimony concerned the proposed OSHA rulemaking for crane safety for general industry and construction. NIOSH provided several exhibits which included a review of crane related fatalities recorded in the National Traumatic Occupational Fatalities surveillance system for 1980 through 1989, a review of crane related fatalities investigated under the NIOSH fatality assessment and control evaluation program, a review of aerial bucket related fatalities, a review of crane related injuries recorded in the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a computerized literature search of the NIOSHTIC database for topics having to do with crane safety, a computerized literature search of the National Library of Medicine MEDLARS and Dialog Information Technologies databases for information related to crane safety, a computer printout from the National Safety Council (NSC) of crane related reports available in the NSC library, and a NIOSH Alert on cranes and electrocutions.
