Assessment of Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner and Nurse-Midwife Training in Meeting Health Care Needs of the Underserved (Executive Summary)

摘要

The purpose of the study was to identify and evaluate strategies used by physician assistant (PA), nurse practitioner (NP), and nurse-midwife (CNM) training programs to prepare trainees for and deploy them to rural and urban medically underserved areas. The study reviewed the recruitment, admissions, educational, and clinical components of 51 training programs to identify and document program characteristics specifically designed to encourage students to locate in underserved areas and to increase their understanding of populations in those areas.
