Nondestructive deflection testing using falling weight deflectometers is one element of the monitoring effort currently underway by the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) for the Long Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) study. Because accurate data is key to the success of the LTPP study, SHRP has implemented a number of measures to ensure the quality of deflection data. They include equipment comparison and calibration, standardized field testing procedures and field data checks, and quality assurance software. Equipment calibration and field data checks built into the FWD data acquisition software are the first line of defense against invalid deflection data. The second line of defense is a computer program, called FWDSCAN, which verifies the integrity, completeness, and compliance with the established test pattern of the field data after it is delivered to the SHRP regional office. The report focuses on the FWDCHECK program. The report is provided in three separate volumes. A complete printout of the computer source code is included in the third volume.
