Coastal Erosion: The Kerteh Case. Analysis of Causative Factors and MitigativeMeasures Using Dedicated Mathematical Modelling Tools

Rantau Petronas Complex is located within Kerteh Bay along the coast ofTerengganu State on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Much of the coast is a series of large and small hook-shaped bays, fully exposed to direct wave attack (especially during the NE-monsoon period) from the South China Sea. In the last decades, Kerteh Bay is suffering severe erosion which had caused the sea to encroach on to the very limits of Rantau Petronas Complex. DELFT HYDRAULICS was commissioned to make an assessment of the causes of this erosion and to make recommendations with respect to suitable shoreline protection works for its mitigation.
