摘要

The report describes a continuation of earlier studies carried out by theNational Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) at the request of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) following the devastation caused by Hurricane Andrew in south Florida on August 24, 1992. In the earlier work, damage to manufactured homes was examined in light of the probable maximum wind speeds in the affected area, and the wind load provisions of selected codes and standards used for structural design in hurricane-prone regions were compared. On the basis of that work, it was recommended that ASCE 7-88 (Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures) should be the primary resource document for updating and improving the wind load provisions of the Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards (MHCSS).
