Soil-Related Lead Poisoning in Socorro, New Mexico. Final Report

This study focused on human exposure to lead from soil and house dust. In summary, blood lead levels in Socorro, New Mexico, residents dropped in all residential areas studied after publicity about lead's health effects and an EPA emergency cleanup of an abondoned smelter site. However, it could not be determined whether the cleanup played a role in the blood lead reduction. Having a family member employed at a lead battery plant appeared to be a risk factor for elevated blood lead levels.
