摘要

The Intelligent Manufacturing Systems (IMS) initiative is a major multinationalcooperative R&D program focused on improving the global competitiveness of manufacturing. In the early 1990s, over twenty IMS projects were initiated by Japan's Ministry of International trade and Industry (MITI); this translated document is a summarized version of the project research progress report. Global production mandates that production systems maintain overall harmonization while working under the autonomy and concurrent operation of several factories located in remote sites around the world. Communication and production systems, must therefore, be used on the autonomic dispersion model that allows a global factory information system. In accordance with this, a production model is introduced that includes simulation, a dispersed coordination type scheduling system, an autonomic dispersion system, an intelligent control system, and a communication system.
