Confronting the Silent Challenge of Hunger: A Conference Synthesis. Held inWashington, DC. on June 28-29, 1994

The views presented at the USAID conference 'Confronting the Silent Challenge ofHunger,' held June 28-29 in Washington, D.C. are synthesized in this report. The conference was sponsored by the Global Bureau's Office of Agriculture and Food Security. Its aims were to provide information to assist USAID in defining and artculating its development strategy for agriculture and food security, to identify issues of consensus to incorporate into future USAID strategy, and to identify critical issues of ongoing debate that need to be resolved. The paper is organized around seven questions posed during the conference. The report summarizes the major points raised in the conference on each of the issues, and then presents the perspective of MSU researchers working on the USAID/MSU Food Security II (FSII) Cooperative agreement.
