Electro-Chemical Polishing in Tooling Industry

Polishing work in the tooling industry is mostly done manually. Electro-Chemicalpolishing which is suitable for polishing molds and dies is a relatively new technology. The method was developed in Japan and nowadays it is in industrial use only in Japan. The most important areas are the polishing of casting and forging dies. This project concentrates on the applications of electro-chemical polishing. The tests are carried out with the present stage of the technology and not with optimized laboratory conditions. The main objective has been to find out the possibilities for polishing different tools and the achievable results. Polishing tests with tools from the companies participating in the project were a very important part of the research. Those tools cover the areas of injection moulding of plastics, die casting, hot forging and cold forming.
