The guide identifies primary source materials documenting the lives andlegislative activities of 1,658 individuals among the 1,726 former members of the United States Senate. The collections are housed in approximately 594 publicly accessible repositories across the nation. They include members' personal papers, family papers, staff papers, correspondence with key individuals and organizations, and oral history interview transcripts. Collectively, these materials document the lives and careers of former menbers, the legislative issues with which they dealt, and more generally, the legislative, political, and democratic process of the United States Senate. The guide is intended to facilitate more widespread use of these collectors by students, educators, and scholars.
