Comparison of 2 Therapies for Xerostomia

This study focused on xerostomia, or oral dryness, which is a subjective condition usually indicating major salivary gland dysfunction. Xerostomia is associated with ionizing radiation of the head and neck, common pharmacological therapies, autoimmune diseases, and a host of other iatrogenic factors. Appropriate, efficacious, and cost-effective methods are needed to manage the clinically significant symptoms of xerostomia. This study examines the efficacy of using vegetable oil as an alternate therapy for the relief of xerostomia in patients undergoing head and neck irradiation.
