Standardized Assessment of Birth Defects and Reproductive Disorders inEnvironmental Health Field Studies

This report documents the results of a workshop convened by the Agency for ToxicSubstances and Disease Registry to assist the agency in developing standarized methods to assess reproductive disorders and birth defects. Participants in the workshop discussed the appropriateness of available methods for measuring the effects of hazardous substances on the reproductive system and identified those methods that were most suitable for use in environmental health field studies. Additionally, they identified areas in which further research and test development were needed. Workshop participants were divided into three workgroups, each discussing a separate topic: (1) female reproductive disorders; (2) male reproductive disorders; and (3) birth defects and developmental disorders.
