Development of Self-Contained Portable Device for SHRP Binder Testing: FieldQuality Control/Quality Assurance Testing with Duomorph Asphalt Rheology Tester

摘要

This project developed a portable field device (duomorph) for testing asphaltbinder properties to complement the SHRP dynamic and bending beam rheometers. The duomorph technology was improved using new piezoelectric materials, sensors, improved digital technology, and newer electronic equipment. Laboratory test results using SHRP reference asphalt binders showed that the Duomorph Asphalt Rheology Tester or DART provided data that compared well with standard SHRP equipment. Extensive experimentation was performed to establish operational characteristics of the system at various temperatures as required in SHRP binder specifications.
