The main objective of the present study is to contribute to the knowledge of thecatalyzing impact of new, technology-based firms in a national innovation system, by solving the research problem. The detailed objectives of the study are to summarize the existing knowledge on innovation, the systemic context of innovation, and the role of new, technology-based firms in innovation; to discuss the concept of technological embeddedness, and to implement it to research on new, technology-based firms; to explore the role of new, technology-based firms in industry clusters; to identify patterns in the technology flows catalyzed by new, technology-based firms and to analyze the technology transfer mechanisms used; and to present policy recommendations geared to exploiting the catalyzing impact of new, technology-based firms in industrial technological renewal.
