Technology Assessment: Uses Context and Interpretation. Abstract, ExecutiveSummary, and Final Report

摘要

The study aimed to identify the moral and related resistance physicians voicewhen they confront outcomes data and practice guidelines, and to assess the merits of their concerns. The goal of the project was to suggest ways it might be possible to design more effective guidelines, to develop more useful data, to improve dissemination of guidelines, data, and technology assessments and to advance the cause of good outcomes assessment. Focusing on ten technologies (screening for prostate cancer and cholesterol, hormone replacement therapy and treatments for thrombolysis, otitis media, low birth weight, smoking cessation, and autologous bone marrow transplants for breast cancer) an interdisciplinary group at The Hastings Center identified three broad categories of moral objections.
