Over the course of the last decade, research in health promotion has documented211u001ethe positive effects of a healthy lifestyle on health outcomes. A growing body of 211u001eevidence clearly indicates that healthy behaviors play a major role in preventing 211u001eunnecessary disease, postponing disability and improving quality of life for all 211u001eage groups, including older adults. In addition, changing certain health 211u001ebehaviors, even in old age, can benefit health and quality of life. The overall 211u001epurpose of the Northwest Geriatric Education Center's Curriculum Module Series is 211u001eto provide community-based providers in the field of aging with a set of self-211u001estudy guides to assist them in developing and implementing various health 211u001epromotion interventions to prevent disease and postpone further disability for 211u001ethe older adults they serve. Each Curriculum Module covers a specific age-related 211u001ephysical or mental health condition that can be prevented, postponed, or 211u001eameliorated by health promotion interventions.
