The HPMPC Peripheral Cytomegalovirus Retinitis Trial (HPCRT) tested a drugregimen consisting of three intervention groups: the deferral group, the low dose cidofovir group, and the high dose cidofovir group for the treatment of peripheral cytomegalovirus in patients with AIDS. The HPCRT was a two stage, multicenter, phase II/III, randomized, controlled clinical trial that evaluated the efficacy and safety of intravenous cidofovir for the treatment of previously untreated, small, peripheral cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis in 64 patients with AIDS. The outcome measures included mortality, morbidity, retinitis progression, and visual acuity. The paper associated with the report addressed the main results of the HPCRT. The report documents the datasets used to complete analyses for this paper. A data dictionary, sample data listings, and relevant data collection forms are included in this document. The variable naming conventions are also described.
