Few events subject the criminal justice system to as intense scrutiny from policymakers, elected officials, the media and the general public as the exoneration of a wrongfully convicted defendant. This paper calls for strong leadership from police agencies to lead reviews of wrongful convictions that can be learning experi-ences for all components of the criminal justice system. The lessons learned from these reviews can lead to the implementation of changes in practice across criminal justice agencies that will improve justice without compromising safety.
