As part of the periodic evaluation of the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes on211u001ethe Long Island Expressway, an HOV lane user/non-user survey was conducted in 211u001eJanuary 1997. The survey included users of the HOV lanes during the HOV-reserved 211u001ehours, HOV lane users during the non-reserved hours and general purpose lane 211u001eusers. From the initial opening in May 1994 through the summer of 1996, usage of 211u001ethe HOV lanes was restricted to carpools, buses and motorcycles between 6 AM and 211u001e8 PM, Monday to Friday.
