Lower Mundo Dam is located about 5.5 miles southeast of Dulce, New Mexico. It wasconstructed in 1967-1968 by the Jicarilla Apache Tribe. The purpose of the reservoir is recreation from which the tribe derives revenue from fishing, hunting, and camping permits. The dam is a homogeneous earthfill embankment constructed with a 3H:1V upstream slope and a 2.5H:1V downstream slope. The creast of the dam is 809 feet long with a crest elevation of 7330.6 feet, a crest width of about 14 feet (10-feet embankment and a 4-feet riprap), and a structural height of 68.6 feet. The reservior has a capacity of 1,20 acre-feet at primary spillway (trickle tube inlet) elevation 7324.0, and 1,400 acre-feet at the dam creast elevation.
