This document presents the results of a workshop conducted during August, 1996,211u001eto better define a research agenda to study the combined effects of natural 211u001evariability and anthropogenic change in Pacific Northwest coastal ecosystems. It 211u001econtains five complementary syntheses written for the workshop on the topics of 211u001ehuman intervention in coastal ecosystems (Change 2), the socioeconomic causes and 211u001econsequences of coastal ecosystems change (Chapter 3), variability and stability 211u001eof climatic/oceanic regimes (Chapter 4), variability of marine ecosystems 211u001e(Chapter 5), and variability of riverine and estuarine ecosystems (Chapter 6). It 211u001ealso contains the critical responses and research ideas of the peers who attended 211u001ethe workshop (Chapter 7).
