摘要

The study provides information about recognized tribes or unrecognized groups of Native Americans who may have historical, legal, or cultural connections to an area in northwestern Nebraska and eastern Wyoming. The research domain is a roughly triangular area with vertices at Fort Laramie, Wyoming, Fort Robinson, Nebraska, and Bridgeport, Nebraska. The area encompasses Scotts Bluff National Monument and Agate Fossil Beds National Monument. Historical connections with contemporary groups of people are not always easy to trace. The problem of ephermerist versus primordialist approaches is outlined to assist with this endeavor.
