Transaction and Rule Support for Workflow Management: A Retrospective on the WIDE211 Architecture

In the WIDE ESPRIT project, extended database support for workflow management has211u001ebeen developed. This support focuses on advanced transaction and active rule 211u001emanagement. In this paper, we discuss the WIDE architecture from a retrospective 211u001epoint of vie. We review major design decisions taken during the project and 211u001erelate them to the functionality, performance, and maintainability of the 211u001edeveloped architecture.
