摘要

This report reviewed evidence concerning acceptable delays in switching between a211u001eprimary and a secondary light source in distributed lighting. The specific 211u001equestion posed was as follows: The industry considers a delay of 100 ms 211u001etechnically achievable, but is it acceptable from the human factors point of 211u001eview. The evidence considered included consequences for the quality of driver 211u001eperformance and possible startle effects. In discussing the quality of driver 211u001eperformance, the following aspects were considered: eyeblinks, voluntary 211u001eocclusions of vision during driving, fixations away from straight ahead (on 211u001erearview mirrors, vehicle controls and displays, and navigation systems), head 211u001emovements when checking traffic in the blind spots, and time-to-collision and 211u001etime-to-lane-crossing measures. Possible effects of different implementations of 211u001ethe secondary light source (high-intensity discharge and incandescent) were also 211u001ebriefly discussed.
